RIG Theory

RIG Theory is built on three tiers, the base or foundation is your resilience, the core is your intention, and at the top you have grit.

The journey of life teaches us many things. However, among all of life’s lessons there is a common theme of needing a solid foundation to build upon. This foundation is needed if you wish to reach your full potential. After your foundation is in place you need a clear and specific goal, then you must put in the work. At RIG we believe that by building resilience, creating intention, and training grit everyone will achieve better health and fitness. But it doesn’t stop there. As you learn these skills in the gym you will be able to apply them to all aspects of your life. Ultimately by building RIG you will be building the best version of yourself.

Resilience, is the capacity to recover quickly from stressors.  Our level of resilience can be affected by the food we put in our bodies, the amount of sleep we get at night, and how much stress we are experiencing.  Your body does not differentiate between stress from work versus stress from the gym. Mastering one's body is the first step in building the strong foundation we desire. This gives us a huge advantage when duty calls and it's time to play the game of life. We can help increase our resilience by getting enough sleep, eating all natural healthy foods, and doing things to mitigate our daily stressors.

Intention, what are your goals? There is no question that we are at our best and live higher quality lives when we have a purpose. This could also be thought of as knowing your why. What is your big purpose/goal/passion? Why is that important to you?  Be true to that big why and hold yourself accountable. Whether it is conscious or subconscious our mind has a way of preemptively deciding how things will go for any given situation, an expectation. It's our job to be present with those thoughts, recognize them, intercept them, and challenge our reaction to them. Show a new perspective to the automation of thought. Visualize the best situation and outcomes, the best form during a lift, what the achievement of your goal looks like. Working at this day in and day out will help make you mentally stronger.  You will come up against resistance and obstacles that threaten to bump you off your path. Return to your big why, correct your course, and power forward.

Grit is the ability to set aside your fears, show up, and put in the work. There are no worries at this point and a sturdy foundation is in place. You ate well, you slept well, you have clear thoughts, and a sharply focused intention for the work set out in front of you. You know exactly what you want and how you are going to get there. Sometimes we stop making noticeable progress and feel like we are on a plateau. This grind can slowly tear you down, make you question your intention, or even wonder if your goals are worth it. Building skills, gaining strength, and developing one’s physical and mental fortitude takes time, continuous practice, and being able to rely on the strong foundation you’ve made. You have are prepared for the battle, understand your why, and your purpose. One by one you will crush your goals as you enact the grit you have trained and blast your way through each days challenges.

The Bumps In The Road

We find great self confidence when our lives are organized, stress is low, and we are giving back in our relationships. Resilience gives us our baseline abilities to set our intentions for our goals and train grit to see those goals through to the completion. If we fall down or miss step, we have built ourselves a system to fall back on. Circle back to our foundation (our resilience) and make sure our intention is in place and aligns with our life and fitness goals. If you stay on top of these three tools, work at them everyday, and adapt them as needed, you will get back on track smoother and faster, steamrolling toward your goals with ease and confidence.
